Public School Choice System　学校選択制について

The “School Choice System (Gakko Sentakusei)” is a system that allows parents and children to choose the elementary or junior high school they would like to attend, regardless of the reason for their choice, if they wish to enroll in a public school other than the one in the school district in which they reside (a.k.a. "designated school").
Since the number of students that can be accepted at each school is determined by the school’s facilities and other conditions, if the number of applicants exceeds the capacity, an open lottery is to be held to ensure fairness before deciding who will be admitted.
* If the child intends to enroll in the school in his/her school district (designated school indicated on the enrollment notification postcard), there is no need to apply.

The system is for new first-year students who are residents Matsudo City and will be entering the city’s elementary or junior high schools next spring.

Schools adjacent to the designated school and within a safe walking distance of the child’s home.
* In order to provide reference information for school selection, the schools will hold “open school” so that people can observe classes, club activities, etc.

【Application Period】

9:00 am Tuesday, November 5 ～ 5:00 pm Monday, November 18, 2024

Please have your child’s Enrollment Notification Postcard ready.
One applicant per child is required. If you have two or more enrolling children in your household, you will have to create multiple accounts on the website to apply.

【Notes】

• If you wish your child to attend a designated school, you do not need to apply. If you apply by mistake, you will be required to attend a different school. Please apply only if your preferred school is not a designated school. *If you have applied for a school you do not need, you will have to go through a separate procedure at the counter.
• If you want your child to "attend the same school as his or her older brother or sister," you can now submit an out-of-district enrollment petition through the online application. For information on how to apply online, please refer to the "Out-of-District Enrollment Petition System" page (Japanese).

【Checking your online application status】

Please check the school you have applied to on "My Page" of the Matsudo City Online Application System. We cannot provide any information about your application or its status over the phone.

1. Log in to the “Matsudo City Online Application System(おんらいん　しんせい　しすてむ)” using the login ID and password you used when you applied for the school choice system.
2. Click “もっと見(み)る(See More)” in the “マイページ(まいぺーじ)(My Page)” section at the bottom of the top page.
3. From the “利用者メニュー(りようしゃ　めにゅー)(Menu)” in “マイページ(まいぺーじ)(My Page)”, click on “申請履歴(しんせいりれき)・委任状(いにんじょう)の確認(かくにん)(Application and Letter of Attorney)”, then “申請履歴(しんせいりれき)(Application History)”, and select the “令和7年度新入学学校選択制(れいわ ななねんど しんにゅうがくがっこうせんたくせい)(2025 New Enrollment School Choice System)” that you applied for.
4. If you click on the “申請内容照会(しんせいないようしょうかい)(Application Inquiry)” and the status of your application is listed as “手続(てつづ)きが完了(かんりょう)しました(Completed)”, your application has been processed within the timeframe.
5. Scroll down and check if the “就学希望学校(しゅうがくきぼうがっこう)(School of Your Choice)” in the “申請内容(しんせいないよう)(Application Details)” section is the school you applied to.

8:30 am ～ 5:00 pm, weekdays

Bring the Enrollment Notification Postcard, and fill out the School Choice Request Form (available on site) at the counter.

【Required items】

- Enrollment Notification Postcard: To be mailed to applicable households in early-November.
- School Choice Request Form: Available at the counter

After applications are closed and counted, schools that received more applications than the maximum number of students will be subject to a lottery.
Please see below for details on this year's lottery information after the announcement on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

The lottery is conducted in public regardless of the parent'/guardians' presence.

Please check the reference number on the Enrollment Notification (入学通知書(にゅうがくつうちしょ)） or in the upper right corner of the parent's copy of the School Choice Request Form.

※There will be a slight delay in posting the results on the multilingual website.

For the 2025 school year, a total of two schools were selected by lottery: one elementary school (Higashimatsudo Elementary School) and one junior high school (Daiichi Junior High School).
Those who wish to enroll in a school that was not selected by lottery may enroll in the school of their choice.
You can also confirm about the lottery information by visiting the Board of Education website (Japanese) or by calling the School Affairs Division of the Board of Education (047-366-7457) from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All applicants will receive a new Enrollment Notification Postcard (入学通知書(にゅうがくつうちしょ)）in mid-January, 2025. Please carefully review the school information on the notification, and keep it in a safe place until you present it at the Entrance Ceremony. Please contact the Board of Education if you don't receive the notification after the end of January.

For children who are enrolling in a school other than their original school, you must contact the new school directly for the date of the school information session, etc.

- Second choices are not accepted, so please think carefully before applying for your choice of school.
- Students will have to walk to and from school every day, and bicycles are not permitted at Matsudo City schools. Please carefully consider the commute time and other factors to ensure that it is reasonable for your child. It may be a good idea to check the commuting time and route with your child in advance.
- If unavoidable circumstances arise and you wish to withdraw your school choice application, please contact the School Affairs Division as soon as possible.
