Lan, tell us about your cultural experiences! December 2023 Issue

This month marks the 2nd anniversary of my time as Coordinator of International Relations (CIR) in Matsudo City. Time passes quickly, doesn’t it? Before I came to Japan, I did not know anything about Matsudo. But over the past two years, I’ve experienced a lot of interesting things in Matsudo and this city has become like my second home.
Since Matsudo celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2023, many commemorative events were held around the city almost every month throughout the year, to promote Matsudo City’s charms, such as agricultural products, sight-seeing and music. I feel very lucky to have been here in this special year.
Besides, Matsudo City also seems to be a popular city among foreigners. The number of foreign residents in the city is increasing year by year. At the end of October 2022, there were 17,791 foreign residents in Matsudo, an increase of approximately 1.6 times more than 10 years ago, accounting for nearly 3.57% of the city’s population. In other words, there is one foreigner in every 30 residents in Matsudo (data from Matsudo City).
As a CIR working in the city hall, I can see the city’s efforts to create a city that is friendly to all people regardless of nationality by providing information in multiple languages, establishing a consultation desk for foreigners, or holding international cultural exchange events…etc.
I am planning to stay in Matsudo for more another year so I hope I will explore many interesting things here.

気づいたら私が松戸市国際交流員になってから今月で丸2年となります。時間が経つのは早いですね。日本に来る前に、松戸市のことを全く知らなかった私はこの2年間、松戸市で楽しいことをたくさん体験できて、松戸市は第二のホームのようになりました。また、2023年に松戸市は市制施行80周年を迎えて、1年間を通じてほぼ毎月市内各地で、農産物、観光、音楽など松戸市の魅力を発信する記念イベントが開催されています。この特別な年に松戸市にいられるのはとてもラッキーだと感じました。
そして、松戸市は外国人からも人気の街のようで、外国人人口が年々増加しているそうです。2022年10月末時点に外国人人口は17,791人で、10年前と比べると約1.6倍になって、外国人比率が約3.57％となっています。つまり、市民の約30人に1人が外国人ということです（松戸市のデータ）。
国際交流員として市役所で働いている私は、国籍問わず全ての人にやさしい街を作るために、多言語による情報提供、外国人相談窓口の設置、国際文化交流イベントの開催など、市の取り組みを実感できました。
来年はまだ松戸市にいる予定ですので、松戸市で楽しいことをもっと体験したいと思います。
