Matsudo, a living and breathing city
Some of you may recall seeing a series of orange flags displayed by the west exit of Matsudo Station. The installation was a flowing city mural, intricately drawn by Portuguese architect Vasco Mourao in collaboration with art program PARADISE AIR.
Seeing Vasco’s work prompted me to ponder how I perceive this city. To me, Matsudo is like a living creature. Matsudo Station is the beating heart that keeps us moving. The rivers are the lungs, quietly revitalizing the city. The city hall is the brain, collecting data and solving problems. And the local people are the backbone and spirit, building their homes, businesses and daily lives within the city limits.

生き物としての松戸市
みなさん、しばらくの間、松戸駅西口にディスプレイされたオレンジ色のひらめく布に描かれた作品を見ましたか。PARADISE AIRというアートプログラムで松戸を訪れたポルトガル人建築家ヴァスコ・ムラオさんの作品です。
ヴァスコさんの作品は、私に松戸のイメージを考えさせました。私にとって松戸はまるで生き物のようです。当市を動かしていく心臓は松戸駅であり、当市に活力を吹き込む肺は川であり、データを集め、問題を解決する頭脳は松戸市役所ではないかと思います。また、松戸に住み、事業を営み、日常生活を送る松戸市民は、正に松戸の核である脊髄と精神に間違いありません。
