Here comes Ha! November 2019 Issue

We are happy to announce that Matsudo City has recently welcomed a third CIR! As they say, the more the merrier, right? Today, I’m going to introduce our new CIR - Iris Tong, from Melbourne, Australia. Iris started working at the Matsudo International Exchange Association (MIEA) this August.

The first impression I had about her was what a beautiful name she has! But that isn’t all; when I started talking with her and sharing thoughts, she impressed me nonstop. Iris was born in Shanghai, and she moved to Melbourne 10 years ago. After studying Japanese & Linguistics for 3 years at Melbourne University and serving 1 year as an exchange student at the Tokyo Foreign Languages University, she continued pursuing her passion for languages and applied for a 2-year translation/interpretation course which is degisned for future simultanous interpreters at Monash University. In addition to her fluent Japanese, English and Chinese, she can also speak French, Korean, and is now learning German.

I was very impressed by her academic record and her love for foreign languages. She told me that she wanted to utilize her language skills, cultural knowledge & experience acquired from years of studying to contribute to the operation of MIEA’s cultural exchange events, and to share those events to as many foreign Matsudo citizens as she can. Let’s keep an eye out for MIEA events and future activities of Iris!

この頃は、アイリス！

皆さん、ご存じですか？松戸市にいる国際交流員（CIR）が3人になりました。人が多ければ多いほど楽しいでしょう。今回は、新しいCIRさんをご紹介します。彼女は、オーストラリア、メルボルン出身のアイリスさんです。

アイリスさんは、今年8月から松戸市国際交流協会（MIEA）に任用され、CIRとして活躍しています。最初に彼女の名前を聞いたときに、とても素敵な名前だと思いました。そして、話せば話すほど、彼女にはいつも驚かされます。アイリスさんは上海で生まれ、10年ほど前にメルボルンに引っ越ししました。メルボルン大学で3年間の日本語と言語学を修了し、東京外国語大学へ1年間の交換留学後、言語への情熱を追い求め、モナシュ大学の同時通訳者向けの翻訳・通訳コースで2年間勉強しました。流暢な英語と日本語と中国語に加え、フランス語、韓国語も話せて、現在ドイツ語も勉強しています。

私はアイリスさんの学歴と言語への愛に感動しました。彼女は高い言語能力と今まで習得した文化に関する知識と経験を活かし、MIEAの異文化交流活動の運営に貢献し、様々なイベントをできるだけたくさんの松戸市在住外国人に発信したいと語りました。今後のMIEAのイベントとアイリスさんの活躍を楽しみにしていてください。
