Here comes Javi! October 2019 Issue

What is an American university like? Countless times have I been asked this question, yet to go through the many ideas, influences, and idiosyncrasies that compose these institutions would take longer than social norms would afford me.

Thankfully, the Matsudo International Exchange Association (MIEA) was here to help! I have worked with MIEA at many other events before, such as the English Speech Contest and Culture Festival, but in August they gave me the opportunity to make a speech about American universities. At about 40 people, the turnout was greater than I expected, and I thoroughly enjoyed talking at length to an interested, engaged audience. At the end the audience asked me a variety of questions about my personal opinions, experiences, and thoughts, reassuring me that my speech had earned a positive reception. I’m no psychic, but my coworkers were also pleased with the presentation, so I feel there is a high chance I will get to make another presentation in the future.

アメリカの大学はどんな感じですかと何回も聞かれたことがあるのですが、大学を形成する多様な思想、影響、特異体質などを全て解説していたら、社会的に許されないほどの膨大な時間がかかってしまいます。

ただ私はラッキーにも、松戸国際交流協会（MIEA)の手助けを頂きました！英語スピーチコンテストや国際文化祭を始め、MIEAと共に多くのイベントで活動をしたことがありますが、MIEAが、この8月にアメリカの大学について発表する場を設けてくれたのです。来場者の人数は期待以上の40人にも達し、長時間にわたり関心の強い観客に対して話をするのは大変楽しかったです。最後には、観客から私の意見、経験、思いなどについて色んな質問があがり、好評をいただいたと安心できました。私は超能力者ではないですが、同僚も良かったと思ってくれたようで、いつか再び発表させて頂ける機会があればと思います。
