Say hello to the new CIR, Breanna Hundley!
Hello, everyone! My name is Breanna Hundley and I am from North Carolina in the US.
I fell in love with Japanese at the age of 14 years old when I heard an ending theme song from the anime Inuyasha. I found it interesting how American songs directly talked about love but Japanese songs used many flower and nature metaphors. This became my motive for studying Japanese. Over the next few years I translated over 40 songs for fun, and ultimately I decided to become a translator. Consequently, I studied Japanese culture and Global Studies in undergraduate and graduate school, then worked as a translator at a US-based Japanese company for 5 years.
I came to Japan as a CIR because I wanted to improve my Japanese abilities and knowledge of Japanese culture. While I’m here, I hope to translate and interpret as well as plan fun events. I look forward to working in Matsudo!
新CIRのブリアナ！/The new CIR, Breanna!
ブリアナ・ハンドリーが国際交流員（CIR）に就任！
皆さん、はじめまして！アメリカのノースカロライナ州から来た国際交流員のブリアナ・ハンドリーです。
私が初めて日本語に触れたのは14歳でした。当時アメリカで放送していたアニメ『犬夜叉』の主題歌を聴いて、この歌詞の意味を知りたいと思い日本語を学び始めました。ストレートに愛を表現するアメリカの歌と違い、日本のラブソングでは愛を花と自然に例えて表現することが多く、面白いと思いました。数年間で40曲を夢中で翻訳し、日本語の翻訳者になる夢を持ちました。そして、大学・大学院で日本の文化と国際関係を学び、夢がかなって翻訳者として、5年間アメリカの日系企業で働いていました。
さらに日本語と日本文化の知識を深めたいと、私は国際交流員になることを目指しました。念願かなって、松戸市に来ることができました。翻訳、通訳の他、松戸市の皆さんと触れ合える楽しいイベントを考えたいと思っています。街で見掛けたら「Hi!ブリアナ!」と声を掛けてくさい！
