1. 2019 Matsudo Festival 松戸まつりイン2019

The Matsudo Festival is the biggest event on the annual calendar. Hundreds of thousands of people. Yep, it's even bigger than the fireworks!

There will be a music parade, dance performances, demonstrations, stalls, yummy food, classic cars, pretty much every community group under the sun...honestly, it's a big deal! And you've got two whole days to experience it. So invite your friends, come into downtown Matsudo, and soak up the community vibe.

Date: Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th of October, 2019
Time: 10am to 5pm
Venue: Matsudo Station surrounds (both east and west sides) and Matsudo Central Park (behind Ito Yokado)
Fee: Free entry

2. MIEA International Cultural Festival (公財)松戸市国際交流協会の国際文化祭

In celebration of the many different cultures and people that decorate our great city of Matsudo, MIEA is hosting the 24th Annual Matsudo International Cultural Festival on October 19th! If you are interested in foreign cultures, come and enjoy a wide variety of activities, exhibits, and performances! And not to mention, the internation food corner! There will be Vietnamese food, Turkish food, Thai food and much more!

Venue: Matsudo Citizen's Hall ('Shimin Kaikan', approx. 7 minute walk from the east exit of Matsudo Station)

3. Matsuhidai Festival 松飛台まつり

The Matsuhidai Festival is yet another great event that takes place every year in October. Come down and enjoy the atmosphere with friends and family. (Chiba Prefecture mascot 'Chiiba-kun' will also be there!)

2. Kyusaitou-tei House Festival 旧斎藤邸祭り

※The number of seats available for each event is limited to 40. Starting at 12:30, there will be a distribution for numbered tickets for the concert while supplies last.

6. Three Lions Dance 三匹獅子舞

Japan has a long tradition of the lion dance, known as shishi-mai (獅子舞) in Japanese. The first lion dance recorded in Japan was at the inauguration ceremonies of Todai-ji in Nara in 752. The dance is commonly performed during the New Year to bring good luck and drive away evil spirits, and the lion dancers may be accompanied by flute and drum musicians. It is also performed at other festivals and celebrations. In some of these performances, the lions may bite people on the head to bring good luck.

Exhibitions 展示

1. Exhibition: "Jomon Shell Mound - The Kai-no-hana Ruins" 館蔵資料展 「縄文貝塚 貝の花遺跡展」

The Kai-no-hana Ruins (Kai-no-hana-iseki) was a settlement that spanned the middle and tail years of the Jomon period, but only recently in 1964/65 was it discovered and excavated. The discoveries of this excavation were compiled into a report made in 1973.
 In addition to appreciating a wide variety of unearthed artifacts, this art exhibit will allow you to learn about the true nature of Kai-no-hana area in light of all the research done since the 1973 report.

Period: Saturday October 5th, 2019 - Sunday November 24th, 2019
Time: 9:30 - 17:00 (The museum opens until 16:30)

2. Planetarium screenings @ Naoko Space Planetarium プラネタリウム室のスケジュール

The Matsudo Shimin Kaikan (Citizens' Centre) is home to the 'Naoko Space Planetarium', aptly named after former astronaut and Matsudo local Naoko Yamazaki. The planetarium runs seasonal screenings. The autumn schedule is as follows -

Dates: Saturday September 1st, 2018 - Sunday October 21st, 2018
Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays

October 2019 Programs:
"The One and Only Moon" (40min), 10:30* and 15:30
"Story of Aquarius" (20min, for children), 13:30 and 14:30
※The 10:30 screening has Japanese subtitles for the hearing impaired.

Entry fee: 50yen for adults, free for children (junior school and below) and pensioners (65 years and over). Entry tickets are required and can be picked up/purchased on the 2nd floor up to 30min prior to each screening.

Location: Matsudo Shimin Kaikan. 4th floor, Matsudo 1389-1 (5-10min walk from Matsudo Station east exit)

1. Pear picking season in Matsudo 梨もぎ体験の季節

It's pear picking time!

There are over 50 pear farms in Matsudo City alone, growing and selling nine different varieties of pears throughout the season. Different pear varieties have different levels of sweetness, acidity and juiciness, and also differ in overall size and firmness (download the pamphlet below for more details). Admission is free, and you only pay for the fruit you pick.

Season: Mid-August through mid-October
Price: 650 yen/kg, for both picking and direct sale
Location: All pear farms affiliated with the Matsudo Pear Farming Agritourism Association

2. Gathering of foreign parents and babies @ 'Hot Room Shin Matsudo' (public playspace) 海外から来たママとパパの広場 @ ほっとるーむ新松戸

On the 4th Thursday of every month the 'Hot Room Shin Matsudo' playspace holds a casual gathering for foreign parents and their babies. The session is also popular amongst parents with foreign spouses, parents who have lived overseas in the past, and those who have an interest in foreign cultures. It is completely free and open to anyone with a young child (generally up to the age of 3).

Time: 10:30 onwards (bring a packed lunch to eat afterwards if you like)
