Exhibitions 展示

1. Special Exhibition: “Forgotten Restoration, Quiet Meiji” 明治150年 「忘れられた維新 静かな明治」

The true reason Akitate Tokugawa was sent to the 1867 Paris World Fair was to gather support for the revival of the Shogunate back in Japan, but unexpected trouble within France, a close ally of Japan, caused Akitate to lose much of his financial support, and with it his chances of attaining the revival he dreamed of.

Through the collapse of the Shongunate, how did the Tokugawa House navigate the Meiji Restoration? Let us take a close look at how exactly the Meiji Restoration affected the Tokugawa House, and how their political powers fared as the times went by.
