1. Dream fireworks 2016, brought to you by the Matsudo City community ～みんなであげる夢花火 松戸花火大会イン2016
"Light and Sound and Smiling Faces"
10,000 fireworks will blaze through the night sky in an impressive simultaneous display of light, colour and sound. This is a highlight on the annual calendar and is not to be missed!
Date: Saturday 6th of August, 2016*
*In the case of a storm or strong winds, the fireworks will be postponed to Sunday 7th August
Location: Edogawa River bank (best accessed via the road that passes the Municipal Library)

Useful information -
- Extreme crowds are expected during the afternoon and evening, so please utilise public transportation to/from the venue
- Please take care to avoid accident, injury, and lost children etc.
- Please seperate and dispose of your rubbish at the designated collection spots
- Drones and other remote controlled aerial devices are not to be used during the festival

2. 11th Annual Sakagawa River Lantern Festival 第11回の献灯まつり
Enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of Matsudo's iconic Sakagawa Lantern Festival! Over 1300 paper lanterns (handmade by local children) will be floated down the river as musicians entertain from the stage and delicious festival food is sold along the river bank. Be sure to try the 'Toumorokoshi' - rich local corn, char-grilled and devoured straight from the cob!
Date: Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th of August, 2016
Location: Old Matsudo Town, Sakagawa riverside (Isetan Dept. Store end)
Time: 15:00~21:00 both days

1. Summer holiday planetarium screenings @ Naoko Space Planetarium プラネタリウム室の夏休みスケジュール
The Matsudo Shimin Kaikan (Citizens' Centre) is home to the 'Naoko Space Planetarium', aptly named after former astronaut and Matsudo local Naoko Yamazaki. The planetarium runs a special summer holiday timetable, as follows -
Dates: 9th of July - 31st of August, 2016.
Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and Wednesday and Thursday afternoons
Programs: "Thrilling solar system and planets tour!" (40min), 10:30 and 15:30
"The story of Scorpio" (20min, for children), 13:30 and 14:30
Entry fee: 50yen for adults, free for children. Entry tickets are required and can be picked up/purchased on the 2nd floor up to 30min prior to each screening.
Location: Matsudo Shimin Kaikan. 4th floor, Matsudo 1389-1 (5-10min walk from Matsudo Station)
2. "Kimono in daily life", special exhibition @ Matsudo Municipal Museum 松戸市立博物館、「くらしのなかの着物」
Nowadays it is quite rare to see someone wearing the Japanese kimono. With most people now opting for western-style clothing, the kimono has evolved into a symbol of special occasions and cultural celebrations, such as the 7-5-3 day, the Coming of Age ceremony, weddings and in celebration of fireworks festivals etc.
The "Kimono in daily life" exhibition aims to show how the kimono was once worn during the day-to-day, displaying the different varieties and styles used to suit the changing seasons, and the ways in which kimonos were washed, etc.
Dates: Saturday 16th July - Sunday 4th of September, 2016 (closed Mondays)
Location: Exhibition hall, Matsudo Municipal Museum. Sedabori 671, Matsudo City
Admission fee: Nil.
3. "Feel the rhythm", outdoor music and theatre @ Forest & Park for the 21st Century ドコでもシアター「リズムを刻む夏夜の森」
The 'Anywhere Theatre' is a free outdoor entertainment series run in Matsudo's Forest & Park for the 21st Century. Their upcoming event, "Feel the rhythm", will be an evening of music and entertainment for the entire family.
Date: Saturday 27th of August
Time: 18:00 - 20:30 (the park will be open for the event from 17:30-21:00)
Location: Forest & Park for the 21st Century. Sendabori, Matsudo City (next to the Municipal Museum)

1. MIEA English Speech Contest for high school students 松戸市国際交流協会の英語スピーチコンテスト
The Matsudo International Exchange Association (MIEA) will hold it's annual English Speech Contest for high school students in mid-August. Entrants will speak without prompts for several minutes on a topic of their choosing, and winners will be awarded a fully funded place on the 2017 MIEA Student Delegation trip to Matsudo's Sister City, Whitehorse in Australia. Stakes are high and spectators are encouraged!
Date: Saturday 20th of August

2. Paradise Air Short Stay Program, artists in residence パラダイス・エアのアーティスト・イン・レジデンス
Paradise Air boasts a full Short Stay Program calendar for the month of August, with three foreign artists due to complete a residency -
